CHHS Thespians Earn Scholarships, Callbacks at Festival

Cedar Hill High School thespians earned scholarships and caught the attention of top theater programs at this year’s Texas Thespians State Festival. Students participated in workshops, auditions, shows, and individual competitions at the three-day event which kicked off Nov. 30.


Seniors Leo Medina, Jeffery Pope, David Bacon and Alexis Garay received nearly 50 callbacks combined from theater programs including: New York University, New York Film Academy, University of Houston,Texas Christian University, Baylor University, and New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts. In addition, these students were offered scholarships from several colleges.

Together, Medina and Pope received $3,500 combined in scholarships after participating in the scholarship interview portion of the festival.
 
Additionally, Medina was one of two finalists in the festival’s playwriting competition. The senior qualified to submit his original play to the National Thespian Festival slated for June 2017.
