Mrs. Winfield

Welcome Art 1 Students to 2017-2018 School year!

This year begins my 6th year teaching and my 6th year at CHISD. The past 5 years I have taught Art 1 at the Ninth Grade Center exclusively, and this year I'm branching out to teach Art 1 at the CHHS Campus to 10, 11, and 12 graders.

I grew up surrounded by artists, my mother had a degree in Art Education, and my father, now retired, taught Art on the College level. My primary strengths and focus on visual art during college was with printmaking. I was fortunate to work with printmaking Masters and worked with lithography, multi-color screen printing as well as intaglio and relief printmaking. I enjoy many arts and crafts.

I have been married to my husband, Terry for 14 years and we enjoy many varied activities when we have time off together, particularly spending time with our dogs (Papillons), watching movies, and Pokemon Go hunting; which gets us off the couch and out and about! I also enjoy researching genealogy, reading, and photography.

Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked in a variety of retail jobs before, during and after college. I worked in and managed a pet store on and off for about 10 years throughout and beyond college; ultimately being promoted to the store manager before the chain of Jerry's Perfect pets closed in the state of Texas. I was the copy & print center manager (where I met my husband) at Office Depot in Fort Worth and Arlington locations for 7 years, finally my last retail job was in commission sales for Rooms to Go Kids for 4 years, until I decided to add to my education and become a Teacher.  I have outside of school experience with hiring, training, and sadly, letting people go because they were not a good fit with the various companies I worked for.  I bring a wealth of experience that children will benefit from as we get to know each other.  I hope I can assist your children with practicalities of life outside of the sheltered school setting in regards to applying for, and keeping that part time or summer job.

I'm looking forward to this year working with your children to bring them more knowledge about the history of visual artwork, the processes behind creating original work, exposures to a variety of mediums which will bring a new appreciation and evaluation of artwork in general.
